ECWCS \u00a0is a three layered\u00a0cloth required by the Indian Army for its sustained operations in glacier and Himalayan peaks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Note:<\/b> Till now, Indian Army has been importing extreme cold weather clothing and several Special Clothing and Mountaineering Equipment (SCME) items for the troops deployed in high altitude regions.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n What are the key features of ECWCS?<\/b><\/p>\n Firstly,<\/b> it is an ergonomically designed modular technical clothing<\/strong>\u00a0that\u00a0provides physiological comfort and thermal insulation\u00a0<\/strong>over a temperature range of +15 to -50\u00b0 Celsius.<\/span><\/p>\n Secondly, <\/b>the cloth has several features like reduction in respiratory heat and water loss, rapid absorption of sweat, water proof,<\/strong> wind proof with adequate breathability and enhanced insulation as well as strength features required for high altitude operations.<\/span><\/p>\n Considering the widely fluctuating weather conditions in the Himalayan peaks, the clothing is a viable import alternative for the Indian Army.<\/span><\/p>\n Moreover, it can only cater to the existing requirements of the Army but also can be exported.<\/span><\/p>\n Source: <\/b>This post is based on the article \u2018<\/b>DRDO hands over technology of extreme cold weather clothing system ECWCS to five Indian companies<\/b>\u2019 <\/b>published in PIB <\/b>on 28th<\/sup> Dec 2021.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What is the news?
