Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has given Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to the Corbevax Vaccine for Covid-19.<\/span><\/p>\n Corbevax is<\/span> India\u2019s first indigenously developed Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) protein subunit vaccine.<\/b><\/p>\n Manufactured by:<\/b> It is manufactured by Hyderabad-based Biological E. It was supported by <\/span>Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) <\/span><\/a>from pre-clinical stage through Phase III clinical studies.<\/span><\/p>\n Financial Support: <\/b>The vaccine was provided financial support under COVID-19 Research Consortium, through the <\/span>National Biopharma Mission.<\/span><\/a> Later support was provided under <\/span>Mission COVID Suraksha.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n It is a protein subunit vaccine<\/strong>, which means that instead of the whole virus, it uses fragments of it to trigger an immune response<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n In this case, the vaccine contains a harmless <\/span>Spike protein<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a>. Once the immune system recognises the protein, it produces antibodies to fight a real infection when it happens.<\/span><\/p>\n Efficacy: <\/b>The Phase III trials have <\/span>demonstrated the vaccine to be safe, well tolerated and highly immunogenic.<\/span><\/p>\n Dose<\/b>: It <\/span>is a 2-dose vaccine administered intramuscularly and can be stored at 2\u00baC to 8\u00baC.<\/span><\/p>\n A receptor-binding domain (RBD) is a key part of a virus, located on its \u2018<\/span>spike<\/span><\/a>\u2019 domain that allows it to dock to body receptors to gain entry into cells and lead to infection.
