Commander-in-Chief Andaman and Nicobar Command(CINCAN) has inaugurated Sankalp Smarak at Andaman and Nicobar Islands.<\/span><\/p>\n Sankalp Smarak is a monument dedicated to <\/span>Netaji<\/span> Subhas Chandra Bose.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n It is a tribute not only to the resolve of the soldiers of the Indian National Army and their innumerable sacrifices but also reminds us of the values enshrined by Netaji himself.<\/span><\/p>\n During World War II (1942\u201345), Japan had conquered the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from the British and handed it over to Netaji and his army, the <\/span>Azad Hind Fauj.\u00a0<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n Netaji then arrived at Andaman and Nicobar Island on 29th December 1943 and declared the island free from British rule, much before India got its Independence in 1947.<\/span><\/p>\n On the next day, i.e. 30 December 1943, Netaji hoisted the national flag for the first time on Indian soil<\/strong>, at Port Blair.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n During his visit, he also visited the Cellular Jail and met the freedom fighters lodged there.<\/span><\/p>\n Before his departure, he renamed Andaman as Shaheed<\/strong> (\u201cMartyrs\u201d)<\/em> Island, and Nicobar as Swaraj<\/strong> (\u201cFreedom\u201d)<\/em> Island.<\/span><\/p>\n Firstly, <\/b>Netaji\u2019s visit to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as the Head of the Provisional Government of Azad Hind and Supreme Commander of the Indian National Army marked a symbolic fulfilment of his promise that the Indian National Army would stand on Indian soil by the end of 1943.<\/span><\/p>\n Secondly,<\/b> this<\/span> historic visit also marked a declaration of Andaman and Nicobar Islands as the \u201cfirst liberated territory of India\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n Source: <\/b>This post is based on the article<\/span> \u2018<\/span>\u2018Sankalp Smarak\u2019 dedicated to the nation by CINCAN<\/b>\u2019 <\/b>published in <\/span>PIB <\/b>on 29<\/b>th<\/b><\/sup> Dec 2021.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What is the news?
