News<\/span><\/b>: <\/span>India currently has three available vaccines and recently two more along with a drug have been approved for emergency use authorization.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite this wide range of vaccine availability, India has been extremely dependent on just one vaccine COVISHEID<\/strong>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This may become a cause of concern specially with the directives that focus on precaution doses(\/booster shots).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the newly approved drugs by India?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

Corbevax <\/span><\/b>(by Biological-E)<\/em> and <\/span>Covovax<\/span><\/b> are protein sub-unit vaccine . Serum Institute of India will manufacture both of them. Both, however, differ in their manufacturing process.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Molnupiravir<\/span><\/b> is a drug for those with mild and moderate disease and easily administered as a pill.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the <\/span>uncertain scenario of the pandemic,<\/span><\/b> having more vaccines is a good precautionary step. Example: Emergence of new variant Omicron.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This will help in application of <\/span>booster shot<\/span><\/b> specially as India has a large population.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Governments new directives say that \u201c<\/span>precaution doses<\/span><\/b>\u201d, which are third doses of the vaccines an individual has already been inoculated with, will be available for health-care and frontline workers and those above 60 with comorbidities<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What studies say about mixing up the vaccines?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

One study in Uttar Pradesh on <\/span>mixing Covaxin and Covishield<\/span><\/b> showed that antibody levels were higher than two doses of either vaccine.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Till then, It is also important to ensure that the currently available vaccines and treatments are <\/span>not \u00a0hoarded or indiscriminately used<\/span><\/b> which can have potential side effects.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
