Researchers have discovered two <\/span>new plant species from the Western Ghats regions in Thiruvananthapuram and Wayanad districts of Kerala.<\/span><\/p>\n

These two plant species have been named as <\/span>Fimbristylis sunilii<\/strong> and Neanotis prabhuii<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Fimbristylis sunilii?<\/b><\/h5>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

It is a perennial plant<\/strong> of the Cyperaceae family.<\/span><\/p>\n

It stands 20-59 cm tall and was collected from an elevation of 1,100 metres in Western Ghats<\/strong> region.<\/span><\/p>\n

It has been provisionally assessed as data deficient<\/strong> (DD) under the IUCN Red List categories.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Neanotis prabhuii?<\/b><\/h5>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

It is a prostrate perennial herb<\/strong> named after K.M. Prabhukumar<\/strong> in recognition of his research on flowering plants of the Western Ghats.<\/span><\/p>\n

It was discovered in the Chembra Peak grasslands<\/strong> of Wayanad. It hails from the family Rubiaceae and grows on high-altitude grasslands<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

It grows up to 70 cm in length and is many-flowered with the petals pale pink in colour.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
