Although the Firecracker Industry has seen some improvements like <\/span>reduction in child labour, <\/span><\/b>but adherence to safety protocols needs serious reforms.<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

These incidents should not be termed as \u2018accidents\u2019. This <\/span>absolves those who are responsible for the implementation and the enforcement of safety protocols<\/span><\/b> from taking any responsibility for the incident.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Govt should consider implementing some of the recommendations of the eight-member<\/strong> <\/span>K. Kannan committee <\/span><\/b>(former judge of Haryana, Punjab and Madras High Court)<\/em> constituted by the National Green Tribunal<\/span><\/b> after a blast in the district that killed over 20 people in February 2021. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

–<\/strong> The panel had suggested that the Explosives Act be amended to make <\/span>punishments more stringent than now.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

–<\/strong> Only <\/span>certified persons should be employed<\/span><\/b> for operations including mixing, filling of chemicals and the making of colour pellets, and using drones for surveillance of various units<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Government should ensure that there is <\/span>no compromise on the enforcement of the safety protocols<\/span><\/b>. As it involves the question of precious lives and also their livelihood.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the economic significance of Firecracker industry to Tamil Nadu?<\/h5>\n

The firecracker industry employs around eight lakh people<\/strong>, directly and indirectly, in a backward region of Tamil Nadu with no assured irrigation. <\/span><\/p>\n

It also contributes to the economy of the state and thus of the Nation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
