{"id":158332,"date":"2022-01-04T20:56:56","date_gmt":"2022-01-04T15:26:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=158332"},"modified":"2022-01-04T20:56:56","modified_gmt":"2022-01-04T15:26:56","slug":"pm-pays-tributes-to-rani-velu-nachiyar-on-birth-anniversary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/pm-pays-tributes-to-rani-velu-nachiyar-on-birth-anniversary\/","title":{"rendered":"PM pays tributes to Rani Velu Nachiyar on birth anniversary"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the news?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prime Minister has paid tributes to Rani Velu Nachiyar on her birth anniversary.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Who was Rani Velu Nachiyar?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rani Velu Nachiyar is the 18<sup>th<\/sup> century queen from Sivagangai district in Tamil Nadu, who fought against British rule to recapture her kingdom.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She was known as the <strong>first queen to fight against the colonial power<\/strong> during that time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She is widely known as <\/span><b>Veeramangai (brave woman).<\/b><\/p>\n<h5><b>Life of Rani Velu Nachiyar<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Velu Nachiyar was born in 1730. She <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the <strong>princess of Ramanathapuram<\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. As she was the only child, she was trained in archery, horse riding, martial arts, and even handling different weapons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the age of 16, she was married to Sivagangai Mannar Muthuvaduganathur following which they had a daughter who was named Vellachi.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1772, the British troops and the Nawab of Arcot came together and invaded Sivagangai. During the Kalaiyar Koil war, her husband died fighting for his kingdom.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Velu Nachiyar somehow escaped with her daughter Vellachi and lived in Dindigul for a few years. During this time, she formed an alliance with other kingdoms and plotted her revenge against the British.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following a strong fight, Velu Nachiyar was successful in recapturing her kingdom and hence becoming the queen of Sivagangai again.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She proudly ruled Sivagangai for more than 10 years.
