News<\/span><\/b>: <\/span>Taiwanese firms like Foxconn, Wistron ,Pegatron and Quanta Computer have come to dominate global electronics manufacturing<\/span> Industry <\/span>and have had a very strong presence in China till now.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But, recently, they have started to shift their base to India as China is facing labour shortages and to cut their overreliance on China.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, they are facing some challenges in adapting themselves to the Indian business environment.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What have been the recent incidents that point out towards this?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

Incidents at Foxconn and Wistron’s plants in India point out at the difficulties the Taiwanese firms are facing in adjusting to the local business ecosystem.<\/p>\n

– Foxconn Technology Group,<\/strong> a Taiwanese supplier of Apple is facing <\/span>labour upsurges <\/span><\/b>due to concerns about food safety and accommodation standards.\u00a0<\/span>More than 17,000 people work at the facility, and in mid-December hundreds of workers contracted food poisoning. More than <\/span>150 were hospitalized.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

An apple investigation has found that food sanitation\u00a0<\/span>and employee accommodation is below the optimal standard.<\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

–<\/strong> A year earlier, <\/span>workers at a Wistron plant <\/span><\/b>near the tech hub of Bengaluru ransacked that factory after being fed up with <\/span>delayed and underpaid wages<\/span><\/b>.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

How are Chinese and Indian business environment different from each other?<\/span><\/span><\/h5>\n

India has its own unique traits and characteristics which are as follows-<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Language and cultural barriers:<\/span><\/b> Common language and successive leaders\u2019 pro-business policies in China made it easier to set up production units and hire workers there.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>In <\/span>India, they face <\/span>language barriers, cultural differences <\/span><\/b>and changed political set up<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Infrastructure:<\/span><\/b> India lacks the infrastructure Taiwanese companies are accustomed to relying upon when setting up local facilities.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Management style: <\/span><\/b>Taiwanese businesses generally used their own executives in China, while in India they will have to increasingly rely on local leaders to set up and run operations.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>This requires adequate training and support so that they can mix the rigid Taiwanese approach to operations with a more relaxed worker culture found in India.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Local governments:<\/span><\/b> Local governments in China will mostly side with companies over workers. That\u2019s less likely in India, where leaders need voter support at election time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Time availability:<\/span><\/b> When they were setting their plants in China the Taiwanese companies faced similar challenges like in India, but then they had decades to adapt to the local landscape<\/span> and the demand was also low.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
