The Vice President of India recently said that the New Education Policy follows the \u2018Nai Talim\u2019 of Mahatma Gandhi by giving importance to the mother tongue as the medium of instruction at school level.<\/span><\/p>\n He was speaking at the Silver Jubilee Celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University.<\/p>\n The phrase Nai Talim is a combination of two words- Nai Means \u2018New\u2019 and Talim \u2013 a Urdu word-means \u2018Education\u2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Mahatma Gandhi introduced the concept of Nai Talim in 1937.<\/span><\/p>\n The concept laid emphasis on making mother tongue as the medium of instruction<\/strong> in addition to free compulsory education<\/strong> and skill training<\/strong> to the students.<\/span><\/p>\n The concept was based on four basic principles:<\/span><\/p>\n –<\/strong> Education or learning in mother tongue along with handicraft work<\/span><\/p>\n –<\/strong> Work should be linked with most useful vocational needs of the locality<\/span><\/p>\n –<\/strong> Learning should be linked with vocational work and<\/span><\/p>\n –<\/strong> Work should be socially useful and productive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n It was established to fulfil a dream of Mahatma Gandhi.
