News<\/span><\/b>: <\/span>China already has a superior border infrastructure than India and has recently also finished a lot of projects along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Years of investment and an easier bit of topography of the Tibetan plateau<\/span> gives China an advantage.<\/span><\/p>\n

What have been the recent Chinese advancements on the border areas?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

China is ramping up its infrastructure along the LAC. <\/span><\/p>\n

This includes a new bridge across the Pangong Tso<\/a> <\/strong><\/span>as well as additional troop shelters, gun positions, helipads and jetties in the area between Finger 8 and its military bases at Sirijap-I and II<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What have been the efforts form the Indian side to counter China’s border development?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

India has for the longest time believed that inaccessibility on its side would actually deter the Chinese from intruding across borders.<\/span> But the border clashes over the years have proved the contrary. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So, <\/span>India changed its approach, especially in the last 15 years. <\/span><\/b>Since the <\/span>Galwan clash in<\/span><\/b> June 2020, the pace of Indian border infrastructure <\/span>development has quickened<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

–<\/strong> In June 2021, 63 bridges across six states and two Union territories along the LAC went operational.<\/span><\/p>\n

–<\/strong> Government implemented the <\/span>Shekatkar Committee recommendations<\/span><\/b> regarding border infrastructure that enhanced the Border Roads Organisation\u2019s procurement powers from Rs 7.5 crore to Rs 100 crore.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the way forward?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

India needs to focus on overcoming the problem of lack of <\/span>inter-ministerial coordination<\/span><\/b> and the <\/span>delayed environmental clearances<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>For instance: <\/span><\/b>Failure of the project involving the construction of over 40 integrated border outposts along the LAC due to poor coordination between the ministries of home affairs and Jal shakti.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To be able to counter China successfully, India must utilise its <\/span>limited resources smartly<\/span><\/b> by <\/span>cutting red tape <\/span><\/b>and clearing border projects quickly<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
