Tribal societies have\u202f<\/span>contemporary knowledge of nature\u202f<\/span><\/b>due to continued closeness to forests, flora and fauna.\u202f<\/span>Mainstream societies<\/span><\/b>\u202fhave moved on to\u202f<\/span>agricultural\u202f<\/span><\/b>basis of society, and their cultural knowledge represents\u202f<\/span>impressions of their tribal past, which no longer exists.<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n

While\u202f<\/span>mainstream knowledge systems\u202f<\/span><\/b>are based on\u202f<\/span>rigorous refining and questioning<\/span><\/b>\u202fof ideas through discussions and scientific verification,\u202f<\/span>tribal methods<\/span><\/b>\u202fare based on\u202f<\/span>conservation of knowledge<\/span><\/b>. For example, the awareness among<\/span>\u202ftribals\u00a0of Andaman & Nicobar<\/span><\/b>\u202fabout a wall of sea helped them against\u202f<\/span>Tsunami in 2004.<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Tribal knowledge systems are stored in\u202f<\/span>songs and stories,<\/span><\/b>\u202fwhile mainstream knowledge is preserved in\u202f<\/span>books and recordings.<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n

Tribal knowledge systems promote\u202f<\/span>integrated learning\u202f<\/span><\/b>for the community.\u202f<\/span>In mainstream<\/span><\/b>\u202fsociety, knowledge and traditions have bifurcated, with\u202f<\/span>traditions becoming a subject of study instead of mode of studying.<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n

Tribal knowledge systems are<\/span>\u202fnon-exclusionary\u202f<\/span><\/b>and\u202f<\/span>marked by equity.<\/span><\/b>\u202fMainstreams knowledge systems are mired in barriers like\u202f<\/span>cost of education, patent protections, social exclusion etc.<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Tribal and mainstream societies are\u202f<\/span>not mutually exclusive systems<\/span><\/b>. Constant interaction and mutual dependence have enriched both.
