Several\u202f<\/span>challenges to democratic state system<\/span><\/b>\u202femerged\u202f<\/span>in inter-war years<\/span><\/b>, such as:\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rise of Hitler<\/span><\/b>\u202fto power in Germany was amidst\u202f<\/span>weak institutional checks.\u202f<\/span><\/b>Nazi Party soon became the only political party in Germany.\u202f<\/span>Communism\u202f<\/span><\/b>was banned.\u202f<\/span>Constitution\u202f<\/span><\/b>was suspended.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Poor conceptualization of\u202f<\/span>minority rights<\/span><\/b>\u202ffacilitated\u202f<\/span>ethnic targeting of Jews and\u00a0Romanis\u202f<\/span><\/b>and growth of imperialistic ideas like\u202f<\/span>lebensraum<\/span><\/b>.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Political intolerance of communism\u202f<\/span><\/b>by the capitalist bloc countries led to oversight of German excesses, such as in\u202f<\/span>Munich Agreement.<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Spanish civil war was a result of<\/span>\u202funresolved political contestation<\/span><\/b>\u202fbetween Nationalist Party and the Communist Party.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Rise of\u202f<\/span>ultra-nationalism\u202f<\/span><\/b>and\u202f<\/span>conscription<\/span><\/b>\u202fpromoted\u202f<\/span>militarism in international politics.<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Militant<\/span>\u202frise of fascists under Mussolini<\/span><\/b>\u202fin Italy was supported by liberal classes.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    However, the challenges to Democratic State System were not only limited to the inter-war years:\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. The\u202f<\/span>democratic traditions in Germany<\/span><\/b>\u202fhad been weak since days of\u202f<\/span>Bismarck.<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. The major democracies of the time\u202f<\/span>from USA to UK\u202f<\/span><\/b>had been practicing\u202f<\/span>colonialism\u202f<\/span><\/b>which is\u202f<\/span>fundamentally opposite of democratic ideals.<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Self-interest of capitalist countries<\/span><\/b>\u202fand support for dictatorial regimes in Germany and Italy had domestic\u202f<\/span>democratic\u202flegitimacy<\/span><\/b>\u202fin UK, France etc. due to\u202f<\/span>economic and ideological reasons.<\/span><\/b>\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The<\/span>\u202finter-war period saw crisis of democratic values<\/span><\/b>\u202fas we understand them today. The democratic shortcomings\u202f<\/span>actively led the world to the second world war.\u202f<\/span><\/b><\/p>\n
