Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has signed a Joint Development Agreement with Africa50 to develop the Kenya Transmission Project.<\/span><\/p>\n The <\/span>Project aims to develop power transmission lines<\/b> in Kenya under a public-private partnership framework.<\/span><\/p>\n Under the project, <\/span>POWERGRID will provide<\/span> technical and operational know-how to the project, <\/b>while Africa50 will bring its <\/span>project development and finance expertise<\/b> and will act as a bridge between the Kenyan government and private investors.<\/span><\/p>\n Once completed, the project will be the <\/span>first Independent Power Transmission (IPT) in Kenya <\/b>and will set a <\/span>reference point in Africa as the first financing of transmission lines on a PPP basis.<\/b><\/p>\n Africa50 is an i<\/strong><\/span>nfrastructure investment platform<\/b> that contributes to Africa\u2019s economic growth by developing and investing in bankable infrastructure projects, catalyzing public sector capital, and mobilizing private sector funding, with differentiated financial returns and impact.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Currently, <\/span>Africa50 has 31 shareholders <\/b>comprising 28 African countries, the African Development Bank, the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), and Bank Al-Maghrib.<\/span><\/p>\n Source: <\/b>This post is based on the article \u201c<\/b>POWERGRID and Africa50 in Joint Development Agreement, to pioneer Africa\u2019s first transmission PPP project in Kenya<\/b>\u201d <\/b>published in PIB <\/b>on 12th<\/sup> January 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What is the news?
