Why is the deal significant?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

It is strategically significant in the <\/span>backdrop of China\u2019s expansionism<\/span><\/b> and strong arm tactics with its neighbours in the <\/span>South China Sea<\/b><\/a><\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

India has over time <\/span>supported freedom of navigation and overflight for all in the South China Sea<\/span><\/b> in accordance with UNCLOS.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This will give further impetus to <\/span>India\u2019s Act east policy<\/span><\/b>. Over the years India has been trying to <\/span>strengthen its ties with ASEAN countries<\/span><\/b> through combat exercises, exchanges, training and now weapon supplies.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It will help India in becoming a <\/span>major exporter of arms<\/span><\/b> from being one of the world\u2019s top arms importer as other countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia and South Africa have also shown interest in acquiring Brahmos.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
