The World Economic Forum (WEF) has released a report titled \u201cBiodiverCities by 2030: Transforming cities’ relationship with nature\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n The report is a key output of the BiodiverCities by 2030 initiative<\/span><\/p>\n Cities contribute nearly 80% to the global economy, but<\/b> they also account for nearly three-fourths of greenhouse gas emissions.<\/span><\/p>\n Impact of Nature Loss: <\/b>Around 44% of global GDP in cities ($31 trillion) is estimated to be at risk of disruption from nature loss. More than 1.4 billion people living in the world\u2019s largest urban centres are threatened by natural hazards.<\/span><\/p>\n Solution to overcome from Nature Loss: <\/b>Investing in \u2018Nature-positive\u2019 investments – such as Nature-based Solutions for infrastructure or returning land to nature can enhance nature. It can also secure significant economic benefits as cities become more resilient, liveable and competitive.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Firstly, <\/b>cities must embrace a \u2018systems approach<\/strong>\u2019 to urban governance that considers the needs of all stakeholders and accounts for the value of natural ecosystems.<\/span><\/p>\n Secondly, <\/b>cities must reintegrate nature into their planning decisions.<\/strong> This means preserving natural habitats within and around cities, renaturing degraded land (through, for example, community-based tree planting) and \u2018growing smart\u2019 by embedding nature in new or upgraded infrastructure such as green corridors along high streets and green roofs on new buildings.<\/span><\/p>\n Thirdly, <\/b>action is needed to make nature an attractive investment to financial markets<\/strong> and drive private funding into cities\u2019 natural capital.<\/span><\/p>\n Source:<\/b> This post is based on the article<\/span> \u2018BiodiverCities by 2030: Transforming cities relationship with nature\u2019<\/b> published in<\/span> World Economic Forum <\/b>on<\/span> 19th January 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What is the news?
