This is wrong. It should have been named Sahyadria denisonii.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Secondly,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the inclusion of Denison barb in Schedule I is literally a ban. This is wrong because:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 This fish species is found in almost 11 rivers of Kerala and Karnataka with some of the highest endemic aquatic fauna in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 The income from the collection of Denison barb for the fish trade acts as an incentive for fishermen to protect habitats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hence, it would have been preferable to better regulate the trade by including the species in Schedule IV instead of Schedule I.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b>This post is based on the article <b>\u2018Miss Kerala not endangered: aquarists<\/b><b>\u2019<\/b> published in<b> The Hindu<\/b> on<b> 20<sup>th<\/sup> January 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
