Indian government\u2019s recent move to shift the Amar Jawan Jyoti from its location under India Gate to the National War Memorial (NWM) has been seeing some protest.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some\u00a0sections\u00a0of the society are apprehensive that this may have some political aims.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why is the current place inappropriate?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

India\u00a0Gate\u00a0is\u00a0a war memorial erected by the British, in 1921 in memory of soldiers who died in World War I and the Third Anglo-Afghan War. The monument does not celebrate a national war.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The NWM is a place for citizens to pay homage to our fallen military heroes. Co-locating the Amar Jawan Jyoti with the NWM seems a logical step, and need not become a subject of political controversy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Amar Jawan Jyoti is an eternal flame which\u00a0honours\u00a0India\u2019s \u201cunknown soldier\u201d\u00a0<\/span>and its rightful place is the National war memorial.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
