Indian government\u2019s recent move to shift the Amar Jawan Jyoti from its location under India Gate to the National War Memorial (NWM)\u00a0faced\u00a0some protest.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why some people are regarding the current place as inappropriate?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

What are these arguments in favor of moving the flame to National war memorial?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

NWM houses the\u00a0<\/span>names of all the soldiers<\/span><\/b>\u00a0who died in wars that took place after independence in 1947. While, the Amar Jawan Jyoti set up in 1972 seeks to\u00a0<\/span>commemorate those who laid down their lives in the 1971 war<\/span><\/b>, but their names are not inscribed on the monument itself.\u00a0<\/span>It will be a practical move to have both at the same place.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

NWM is where all the official functions are now held to\u00a0honour\u00a0the country\u2019s soldiers, and having a flame there would be more apt.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What are the arguments against this move?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

India should not also forget the s<\/span>acrifice of 15,000 men who laid down their lives as part of the British Army in the two world wars, and whose names are inscribed on the arch, but not at the NWM.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0present day\u00a0Indian Army is a legatee of the British Indian Army,\u00a0organised\u00a0much along the same lines as it was 75 years ago, and cannot turn its back on its own heroes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the way forward?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

The best way out of the present controversy would be to leave the Amar Jawan Jyoti burning at India Gate, along with the one at the NWM. Keeping the flame alive there will ensure that none of India\u2019s war heroes is forgotten<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
