The Kerala Bird Atlas (KBA) has been released.<\/span><\/p>\n It is the <\/span>first-of-its-kind state-level bird atlas<\/b> in India.<\/span><\/p>\n The Atlas is arguably <\/span>Asia\u2019s largest bird atlas<\/b> in terms of geographical extent, sampling effort and species coverage.<\/span><\/p>\n It was conducted as a <\/span>citizen science-driven exercise <\/b>with the participation of over 1000 volunteers of the bird watching community.<\/span><\/p>\n The atlas has created data about the <\/span>distribution and abundance of various bird species<\/b> across all major habitats for futuristic studies.<\/span><\/p>\n The <\/span>species count was higher during the dry season <\/b>than in the wet season in Kerala.<\/span><\/p>\n Species richness and evenness were higher in the northern and central districts of Kerala than in the southern districts.<\/span><\/p>\n Most of the <\/span>endemic species were concentrated in the Western Ghats <\/b>while the threatened species were mostly along the coasts.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The survey ignored the short duration passage of migrant species.<\/span><\/p>\n Source: <\/b>This post is based on the article \u2018<\/b>Kerala gets its first ever scientific bird atlas<\/b>\u2019 <\/b>published in The Hindu <\/b>on 25th<\/sup> January 2022<\/b>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What is the news?
