It is a large pale waterbird with a hefty pinkish pouched bill marked with dark spots on the upper mandible.<\/span><strong>Conservation Status:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>IUCN Status:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Near Threatened<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972<\/strong>: Schedule IV<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: Under schedule IV, hunting is prohibited, but the penalty for any violation is less compared to the first two schedules.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Habitat<\/strong>: <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a bird of large inland and coastal waters, especially large lakes. The main habitat of the bird is in shallow lowland freshwaters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The bird is found to breed only in peninsular India, Sri Lanka and Cambodia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Threats<\/strong>: Survival of Spot-billed Pelican birds is threatened by habitation loss due to deforestation, hunting, and pollution by organochlorine pesticides.<\/p>\n<p>Nematode infestation does not spread from one species to another species.
