{"id":164897,"date":"2022-01-28T20:37:09","date_gmt":"2022-01-28T15:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=164897"},"modified":"2022-01-28T20:37:09","modified_gmt":"2022-01-28T15:07:09","slug":"india-central-asia-virtual-summit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/india-central-asia-virtual-summit\/","title":{"rendered":"India-Central Asia Virtual Summit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prime <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Minister has hosted the India-Central Asia Summit in virtual format.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the India-Central Asia Summit?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">first of its kind engagement between India and the Central Asian countries at the level of leaders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The summit was attended by the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Objectives of the Summit: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a) To <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">make it clear that cooperation between India and Central Asia is essential for regional security and prosperity, b) To give an effective structure to our cooperation and c) To create an ambitious roadmap for our cooperation.<\/span><\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><strong>Must read: <\/strong><a style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; background-color: var(--global--color-background);\" title=\"India \u2013 Central Asia Relations \u2013 Explained, pointwise\" href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/india-central-asia-relations-explained-pointwise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>India \u2013 Central Asia Relations \u2013 Explained, pointwise<\/strong><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h5><b>What are the key highlights of the India-Central Asia Summit?\u00a0<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>Delhi Declaration: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The leaders issued the Delhi Declaration at the end of the summit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Institutionalise Summit Mechanism: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The countries <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">agreed to institutionalise the Summit mechanism by deciding to hold it every 2 years. An India-Central Asia Secretariat in New Delhi would also be set up to support the new mechanism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Annual Meetings:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> There will be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">annual meetings of the Foreign, Trade and Cultural Ministers and Secretaries of Security (National Security Advisors).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Connectivity, Defence and Cultural Relations: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They discussed further cooperation in areas of connectivity, defence and cultural contacts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They agreed on <strong>a)<\/strong> Round-Table on Energy and Connectivity, <strong>b)<\/strong> Joint Working Groups at senior official level on Afghanistan and use of Chabahar Port, <strong>c)<\/strong> Showcasing of Buddhist exhibitions in Central Asian countries, <strong>d)<\/strong> Joint counter-terrorism exercises and <strong>e)<\/strong> Visit of 100 member youth delegation annually from Central Asian countries to India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Trade:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They discussed the possibilities of increasing Indian trade with the Central Asia region beyond the currently low levels of about $2 billion. Turkmenistan President stressed on the importance of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/new-delhi-to-host-the-next-panel-meet-for-tapi-gas-pipeline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TAPI gas pipeline project <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that runs from Turkmenistan through Afghanistan and Pakistan to India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The situation in Afghanistan: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They discussed the evolving situation in Afghanistan.
