{"id":165572,"date":"2022-02-01T20:26:57","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T14:56:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=165572"},"modified":"2022-02-01T20:26:57","modified_gmt":"2022-02-01T14:56:57","slug":"why-unsc-joint-statement-on-nuclear-weapons-is-important","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/why-unsc-joint-statement-on-nuclear-weapons-is-important\/","title":{"rendered":"Why UNSC joint statement on nuclear weapons is important"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News:\u00a0<\/strong>Five permanent\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/united-nations-security-council-unsc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">United Nations Security Council<\/a> (P5) members have pledged to avoid the ongoing arms race and to prevent the proliferation of nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n<p>This pledge was made ahead of a review of the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/50-years-of-nuclear-non-proliferation-treatynpt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT),<\/a><\/strong><strong>1970<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>What is the pledge made by P5 members on nuclear proliferation?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>P5 members emphasized on:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Creating a <strong>secure environment<\/strong> by working together with the ultimate goal of having a world without nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Adopting <strong>bilateral and multilateral diplomatic approaches<\/strong> to avoid military confrontations and to increase mutual understanding and confidence.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Engaging in <strong>constructive dialogue<\/strong> with mutual respect and acknowledgement of each other\u2019s security interests and concerns<\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><strong>Read here:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/non-proliferation-world-powers-vow-to-stop-spread-of-nuclear-weapons\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Non-Proliferation: World powers vow to stop spread of nuclear weapons<\/a><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h5><strong>How could world countries avoid nuclear proliferation?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>According to UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres, the following approaches need to be adopted:<\/p>\n<p><strong>First,\u00a0<\/strong>member states should move towards nuclear disarmament.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Second,\u00a0<\/strong>Countries should adopt new measures of \u201ctransparency and dialogue.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Third,\u00a0<\/strong>Member states should address the boiling nuclear crises in the Middle East and Asia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fourth,\u00a0<\/strong>Countries should strengthen the existing global bodies that support non-proliferation, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/international-atomic-energy-agency-iaea\/\">International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fifth, <\/strong>Member states should promote the peaceful use of nuclear technology<\/p>\n<p><strong>Last,\u00a0<\/strong>Member states should remind \u201cthe world\u2019s people \u2013 and especially the young ones \u2013 that eliminating nuclear weapons is the only way to guarantee that it will never be used.<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Why maintaining world peace is important?<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>According to <strong>Gandhiji, the <\/strong><strong>Right to peace<\/strong> is an essential framework for all human rights and to maintain it is the work of everyone, regardless of vocation, profession, or discipline.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr,\u00a0<\/strong>called \u201ceducation in the obvious\u201d precisely <strong>peace education<\/strong>. This is required at multiple levels, ranging across the planetary, global, supranational, regional, national, and local levels of social cognition and action.
