{"id":166152,"date":"2022-02-03T19:21:34","date_gmt":"2022-02-03T13:51:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=166152"},"modified":"2022-02-03T19:21:34","modified_gmt":"2022-02-03T13:51:34","slug":"ugc-releases-draft-national-higher-educational-qualification-framework","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/ugc-releases-draft-national-higher-educational-qualification-framework\/","title":{"rendered":"UGC releases draft National Higher Educational Qualification Framework"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the news?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">University Grants Commission(UGC) has released a Draft National Higher Educational Qualification Framework (NHEQF).<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the Draft National Higher Educational Qualification Framework (NHEQF)?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has been released as <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">part of a set of reforms that the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 envisages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This draft framework is not intended to promote a uniform curriculum or national common syllabus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its purpose is to bring up\/elevate all HEIs to a common level of benchmarking to ensure that all institutions are providing quality education.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the key features of the <\/b><b>Draft National Higher Educational Qualification Framework?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>Awarding of Degrees<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: The framework <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">envisages the award of certificates, diplomas and degrees based on what students completing a particular programme of study are expected to know, understand and be able to do at the end of their programme of study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Parameters for Assessments:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has set up certain parameters of assessments for students in higher education institutions and divided it in levels 5 to 10 (Levels 1 to 4 cover the school education).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Level 5 represents learning outcomes appropriate to the first year of the undergraduate programme of study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 Level 10 represents learning outcomes with greater complexity appropriate to the doctoral-level programmes of study.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 At every level, the students will be assessed based on parameters, including knowledge and understanding of theory; cognitive and technical skills; application of knowledge and skills; decision-making abilities etc.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Number of Credits required to clear different levels of Degrees: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The framework fixes the number of credits required to clear the different levels of the four-year undergraduate programme, master\u2019s degrees and doctoral degrees.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Those looking to exit the undergraduate programme with a certificate will require 40 credits; with a diploma after two years will need 80 credits; degree after three years will have a requirement of 120 credits; degree with honours\/research after four years with 160 credits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One credit is equivalent to one hour of teaching (lecture or tutorial) or two hours of practical work\/fieldwork per week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This post is based on the article<\/span><b> \u201cUGC releases draft National Higher Educational Qualification Framework\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in <\/span><b>Indian Express <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on <\/span><b>3rd Feb 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the news?
