INCOIS has carried out a coastal vulnerability assessment for the entire Indian coast at States level. <\/span>It has brought out an Atlas comprising 156 maps on 1:1,00,000 scales to prepare a Coastal Vulnerability Index (CVI).<\/span><\/p>\n The atlas\u00a0<\/span>determines the coastal risks<\/strong> due to future sea-level rise based on the physical and geological parameters for the Indian coast.<\/span><\/p>\n The parameters used are: a)<\/strong> Tidal range b)<\/strong> Wave height c)<\/strong> Coastal slope d)<\/strong> Coastal elevation e)<\/strong> Shoreline change rate f)<\/strong> Geomorphology and g)<\/strong> Historical rate of relative sea-level change.<\/span><\/p>\n This assessment can be useful information for coastal disaster management and building resilient coastal communities.<\/span><\/p>\n A coastal Multi-Hazard Vulnerability Mapping (MHVM) was carried out <\/span>using parameters like sea level change rate, shoreline change rate, high-resolution coastal elevation, extreme water level from tide gauges and their return periods.<\/span><\/p>\n The mapping was carried for the entire mainland of India on a 1:25000 scale.<\/span><\/p>\n The maps depict coastal low-lying areas exposed to the coastal inundation.<\/span><\/p>\n Source: <\/b>This post is based on the article <\/span>\u201cINCOIS carries out coastal vulnerability assessment\u201d <\/b>published in<\/span>\u00a0The Hindu\u00a0<\/strong>on<\/span> 8th<\/sup> Feb 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What is the news?
