{"id":169549,"date":"2022-02-18T18:25:48","date_gmt":"2022-02-18T12:55:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=169549"},"modified":"2022-02-18T18:25:48","modified_gmt":"2022-02-18T12:55:48","slug":"explained-accrediting-colleges-varsities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/explained-accrediting-colleges-varsities\/","title":{"rendered":"Explained: Accrediting colleges, varsities"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the news?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> autonomous body under the UGC <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has released new guidelines allowing colleges and universities that completed just one academic year to apply for provisional accreditation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier, only those higher education institutions with two batches of graduated students or which had completed six years of existence were eligible to apply for NAAC\u2019s assessment and accreditation.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is Accreditation?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Accreditation is a quality check exercise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NAAC conducts accreditation of Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) such as colleges, universities, or other recognized institutions to derive an understanding of the &#8216;Quality Status&#8217; of the institution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The accreditation is done based on parameters such as curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, research, and financial well-being among others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on these parameters, the NAAC gives institutions grades ranging from A++ to C. If an institution is graded D, it means it is not accredited.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the benefits of accreditation? <\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>a) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">helps institutions attract capital <strong>b)<\/strong> helps an institution know its strengths and weaknesses and <strong>c)<\/strong> helps students going for higher education abroad as many global higher education authorities insist on recognition and accreditation of the institution where the student has studied.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>How many universities and colleges have been NAAC accredited?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are only 392 universities and 8,483 colleges that were NAAC-accredited. This is because fear of obtaining a poor grading or no accreditation at all holds back higher education institutes from voluntarily applying for evaluation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To address this issue, UGC launched the <strong>Paramarsh scheme<\/strong> in 2019.
