{"id":169572,"date":"2022-02-18T18:32:14","date_gmt":"2022-02-18T13:02:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=169572"},"modified":"2022-02-18T18:32:14","modified_gmt":"2022-02-18T13:02:14","slug":"conviction-rate-in-human-trafficking-cases-declining","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/conviction-rate-in-human-trafficking-cases-declining\/","title":{"rendered":"Conviction rate in human trafficking cases declining"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>What is the news?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to Government data, the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">conviction rate in cases of human trafficking has been on the decline.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is Human Trafficking?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Human trafficking also called trafficking in persons, is a form of modern-day slavery involving the illegal transport of individuals by force or deception for the purpose of labour, sexual exploitation, or activities in which others benefit financially.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the conviction rate in cases of Human <\/b><b>Trafficking?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The conviction rate in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Human <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trafficking cases<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has been declining over the past four years. It has dropped from 27.8% in 2016 to 10.6% in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As \u200b\u200bmany as seven states \u2014 Assam, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, Goa, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab \u2014 did not see a single conviction in such cases<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is also a delay in awarding compensation to the victims by the district authorities despite orders from the Courts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the number of anti-human-trafficking units (AHTU) in the country has increased to 696.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><b>Note: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) is being established by the Ministry of Home Affairs in districts.
