News: <\/span><\/b>Over the years it has widely proposed and accepted proposition that humanity is in the Anthropocene era and are acting like a geological force that is shaping the planet\u2019s destiny<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, this gives the distorted sense that it is the \u2018planet\u2019 that needs protection rather than the people.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why we need to save people and not planet?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

Climate change leads to earth rearranging itself, it does so in a manner that can be destructive and <\/span>lethal to those least responsible for causing the disequilibrium<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For example<\/strong>: Recently, Uttarakhand saw an avalanche of rock and ice destroy two hydropower projects and cause deaths. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is despite the fact that the geology of the Himalayas makes the region inhospitable to large mega-engineering projects and the several floods, landslides, and earthquakes over the years have underlined this time and again. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What have been the causes behind these major changes in the climate of the earth?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

Atmospheric changes visible now are a result of the Industrial Age and the use of fossil fuels.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although in both these eras it was the <\/span>poor who have suffered the most<\/span><\/b>. They are the ones with the least agency to shield themselves from these hostile changes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why India\u2019s stand on climate justice and its actions are paradoxical to each other?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

India\u2019s position on <\/span>climate justice<\/span><\/b> is that it cannot be denied the right to rely on fossil fuel to enhance the living conditions of most Indians who have limited access to reliable energy. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

India\u2019s commitment to <\/span>net-zero is also very far into the future<\/span><\/b> at 2070. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We should be very cautious that our policies <\/span>do not put the lives of millions people at risk<\/span><\/b> in the <\/span>pursuit of economic development.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
