{"id":17214,"date":"2020-09-02T13:27:59","date_gmt":"2020-09-02T07:57:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/factly.forumias.com\/?p=17214"},"modified":"2020-09-02T13:27:59","modified_gmt":"2020-09-02T07:57:59","slug":"sc-lets-telecom-firms-stagger-agr-payments-over-10-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/sc-lets-telecom-firms-stagger-agr-payments-over-10-years\/","title":{"rendered":"SC lets telecom firms stagger AGR payments over 10 years"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>News: <\/strong>The Supreme Court has said that telecom operators could pay their adjusted gross revenue(AGR) dues to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) over the next 10 years starting April 1,2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Facts:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>What is AGR? <\/strong>Adjusted Gross Revenue(AGR) is the annual license fee (LF) and spectrum usage charges (SUC) that telecom operators are charged by the Department of Telecommunications(DoT).<\/li><li><strong>How is it calculated and what\u2019s the contention? <\/strong>As per DoT, the charges are calculated based on all revenues earned by a telco \u2013 including non-telecom related sources such as deposit interests and asset sales.On the other hand, telecoms insist that AGR should comprise only the revenues generated from telecom services.<\/li><li><strong>What\u2019s the issue now?&nbsp;<\/strong><ul><li>In 2005, Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) challenged the government\u2019s definition for AGR calculation.<\/li><li>In 2015, the TDSAT (Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal) stayed the case in favour of telecom companies and held that AGR includes all receipts except capital receipts and revenue from non-core sources such as rent, profit on the sale of fixed assets, dividend, interest and miscellaneous income.<\/li><li>However, setting aside TDSAT\u2019s order, the Supreme Court in 2019 upheld the definition of AGR as stipulated by the DoT.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News: The Supreme Court has said that telecom operators could pay their adjusted gross revenue(AGR) dues to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) over the next 10 years starting April 1,2021.
