The government has approved the continuation of the Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana (SSSY) till 2025-26.<\/span><\/p>\n Nodal Ministry: <\/b>Ministry of Home Affairs<\/span><\/p>\n Background of the Scheme:<\/b><\/p>\n In 1969, the Government of India introduced the ‘Ex-Andaman Political Prisoners Pension Scheme to honour the freedom fighters who had been incarcerated in the Cellular Jail at Port Blair.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In 1972, to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of Independence, a regular scheme for grant of freedom fighters’ pension was introduced.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Thereafter, in 1980, a scheme by the name <\/span>‘Swatantrata Sainik Samman Pension Scheme <\/span><\/i>was implemented.<\/span><\/p>\n From 2017-18 onwards, the nomenclature of the Scheme has been changed to <\/span>‘Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana’.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n The scheme aims to provide a monthly Samman Pension to freedom fighters, as a token of respect for their contribution in the national freedom struggle and on their demise to their eligible dependents viz. spouses and thereafter, unmarried and unemployed daughters and dependent parents.<\/span><\/p>\n Source<\/b>: This post is based on the article \u201c<\/b>Government has approved continuation of Swatantrata Sainik Samman Yojana(SSSY)<\/b>\u201d<\/b> published in PIB <\/b>on 8th Mar 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" What is the News?
