A Supercomputer named ‘PARAM Ganga’ has been established at IIT Roorkee under National Supercomputing Mission(NSM).<\/span><\/p>\n \u200b\u200b<\/b>PARAM Ganga is a supercomputer designed by the <\/span>Centre for Development of Advanced Computing(C-DAC) <\/span>under Phase 2 of the National Supercomputing Mission(NSM)<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n It has a <\/span>supercomputing capacity of 1.66 Petaflops (1 petaflop equals a quadrillion or 1015 operations per second).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n This supercomputer will accelerate the research and development activities with a focus on providing computational power to the user community of IIT Roorkee and neighbouring academic institutions.<\/span><\/p>\n Launched in: <\/b>2015<\/span><\/p>\n Aim<\/b>: To empower <\/span>national academic and R&D institutions spread over the country by installing a vast supercomputing grid comprising more than 70 high-performance computing facilities.<\/span><\/p>\n Nodal Ministries:<\/b> The mission is being <\/span>steered jointly by the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeiTY) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST).<\/span><\/p>\n Implemented by: <\/b>Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore.<\/span><\/p>\n Pillars of the mission: <\/b>\u00a0The four major pillars of the mission are: Infrastructure, Applications, R&D, HRD.
