News: <\/span><\/b>Experts globally have been voicing the need for an international solution for data protection and regulation on the lines of Bretton woods arrangement of the 1940s. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What is the need for an international approach for data protection standard?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

Currently there are <\/span>broadly <\/span><\/b>three different approaches<\/span><\/b><\/a> to data governance being practised by countries around the world. As we are getting increasingly dependent on data for almost everything we do, these <\/span>divergences will cause complications.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It will<\/span> promote cooperation between the countries which will help us to <\/span>achieve global objectives.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If there is an international approach to data protection standards, it will lead to <\/span>enhanced public trust<\/span><\/b> and then stakeholders will be able to <\/span>unlock the full potential <\/span><\/b>of data driven innovation<\/span>.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

What a good international approach should focus upon?<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h5>\n

It is not necessary that all countries in the world enact a uniform global law. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Instead a <\/span>global alliance<\/span><\/b> can be created, membership to which would be open to nations with a demonstrated commitment to data protection. They will be free to <\/span>fine tune these according to their respective needs<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This will require setting up a <\/span>new multilateral institution<\/span><\/b> for data that can be tasked with the responsibility of coordinating a regulatory dialogue between nations in order to achieve a sufficient level of <\/span>regulatory harmonization<\/span><\/b>. This organisation can be created on the lines of Financial Stability Board.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A common global institution will ensure that a <\/span>common set of technical standards<\/span><\/b> and protocols are developed for all aspects of data governance. Upon agreeing to some common framework members can incorporate these into their national systems which will ensure that there is <\/span>global interoperability<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
