It is celebrated after harvest and coincides with the festival of Diwali. It is celebrated by Prajapati, Santal, Munda and Oraons among others.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is Sohrai Art Form?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-173911 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/download-2.jpeg?resize=289%2C216&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"289\" height=\"216\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sohrai painting is an indigenous art form practised by tribal women in the Hazaribagh district of Jharkhand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The paintings are done on mud walls to welcome the harvest and to celebrate the cattle. The women clean their houses and decorate their walls with murals of Sohrai arts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This art form has continued since 10,000-4,000 BC. It was prevalent mostly in caves, but shifted to houses with mud walls.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Note: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/gi-tag-for-jharkhands-sohrai-khovar-painting-telanganas-telia-rumal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sohrai Khovar<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> painting received the Geographical<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Indication(GI) tag in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Key Features of Sohrai Art Form<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sohrai art form can be monochromatic or colourful. The people coat the wall with a layer of white mud, and while the layer is still wet, they draw with their fingertips on it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their designs range from flowers and fruits to various other nature-inspired designs. The cow dung that was earlier used to cake the walls of the house is used to add colour.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The artists are spontaneous in their drawings. The designs are usually drawn from the artist\u2019s memory.
