Instead, a <\/span><b>\u201cSpecies Richness\u201d Survey <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was conducted by the Department of Forests and Wildlife Preservation with support from the WWF-India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Note:<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Every winter, the birds make their way to India through the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/two-day-meeting-of-30-range-countries-of-central-asian-flyway-begins\/\"><b> Central Asian Flyway, <\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which covers a large continental area of Europe\u2013Asia between the Arctic and the Indian Oceans.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the key findings from the Species Richness Survey?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>91 species of waterbirds <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were recorded from the six protected wetlands.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The waterbird count was highest in the Harike Wildlife Sanctuary <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">followed by the Keshopur\u2013Miani Community Reserve, Ropar Conservation Reserve and Nangal Wildlife Sanctuary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wetlands like <\/span><b>Keshopur\u2013Miani and Shallpattan are the only wetlands in Punjab to host the migratory population<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of common crane and the resident population of the Sarus crane.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The Ropar and Nangal wetlands host the three migratory water species <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the family Podicipedidae i.e., black-necked Grebe, Horned Grebe and Greater Crested Grebe along with the resident Little Grebe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Eurasian Coot was one of the most common water birds <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">spotted in almost all protected wetlands of Punjab during the survey.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Source<\/b>: This post is based on the article<b> \u201c<\/b><b>Migratory waterbirds: Encouraging trend of species diversity recorded<\/b><b>\u201d <\/b>published in<b> The Hindu <\/b>on <b>11th Mar 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
