The Union Cabinet has extended the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PM-GKAY) scheme for another six months, i.e., till September 2022. This will be the sixth phase of PM-GKAY. The Phase V of the scheme was to end in March 2022.<\/span><\/p>\n

What is Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana(PM-GKAY)?<\/b><\/h5>\n

Launched in<\/strong>: April 2020. <\/span><\/p>\n

Aim<\/b>: To ensure sufficient food for the poor and needy during the coronavirus crisis.<\/p>\n

Nodal Ministry:\u00a0<\/strong>Department of Food and Public Distribution under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.<\/p>\n

Salient features of the scheme<\/h5>\n

Under the scheme, each beneficiary will get an additional 5 kg free ration per person per month in addition to his normal quota of foodgrains under the <\/span>National Food Security Act(NFSA)<\/b><\/a>.This means that every poor household would get nearly double the normal quantity of ration.<\/span><\/p>\n

The scheme will cover nearly 80 crore beneficiaries across India and <\/span>would be fully funded by the Government of India.<\/b><\/p>\n

The benefit of the free ration can also be availed through portability by any migrant labour or beneficiary under <\/span>One Nation One Ration Card (ONORC)<\/span><\/a> plan from nearly 5 lakh ration shops across the country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n
