Defence Research and Development Organization(DRDO) has conducted two successful flight tests of the Army version of Medium Range Surface to Air Missile(MRSAM) at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha.<\/span><\/p>\n MRSAM is a<\/span> surface-to-air missile<\/b> developed to use for the Indian Army.<\/span><\/p>\n Developed by<\/strong>: <\/span>DRDO and Israel Aerospace Industries(IAI)\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Purpose: <\/b>The missile <\/span>provides air defence against aerial threats like fighter aircraft, UAVs, guided and unguided munitions & cruise missiles.<\/span><\/p>\n The MRSAM weapon system comprises<\/b> multi-function radar, mobile launcher system and other vehicles. It has Army, Navy and Air Force variants.<\/span><\/p>\n The missile\u2019s management system uses the <\/b>radar to track and correctly identify the target, calculates the distance from it and gives all the information to the Commander for a decision to be made on the interception.<\/span><\/p>\n Length and Weight:<\/b> The missile is 4.5 metres in length with a weight of around 275 kg. It is equipped with fins and canards to stabilize and provide manoeuvrability.<\/span><\/p>\n Speed and Range: <\/b>The missile can move at a maximum speed of Mach 2 (twice the speed of sound).
