{"id":176608,"date":"2022-03-29T19:27:14","date_gmt":"2022-03-29T13:57:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=176608"},"modified":"2022-03-29T19:27:14","modified_gmt":"2022-03-29T13:57:14","slug":"rejuvenation-work-of-saraswati-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/rejuvenation-work-of-saraswati-river\/","title":{"rendered":"Rejuvenation Work of Saraswati River"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) has been signed between the Governments of Haryana and Himachal Pradesh for the construction of the Adi Badri dam on river Somb in Himachal Pradesh, which among others will rejuvenate the Sarasvati river.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Note: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adi Badri, situated in Haryana near the Himachal Pradesh border, is believed to be the Saraswati river\u2019s origin point.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Committee on Saraswati River: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Government of India had constituted a<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> committee of experts. In its report, it had concluded that the Saraswati River, so far considered mythical, existed. It has also \u200b\u200bfound evidence of the course of the river Saraswati.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the course of the Saraswati River?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>Origin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Saraswati River <\/span><b>originated in the Himalayas and met the gulf at the western sea.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>States:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The river passed through Haryana, Rajasthan and North Gujarat, the land texture of which was studied by the panel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Countries:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The river passed through Pakistan before meeting the Western Sea through the Rann of Kutch. One-third of the river stretch fell in present-day Pakistan. The longer, two-third stretch fell in India.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The river had two branches:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> western and eastern.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 <\/span><b>Western Branch:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Himalayan-born Satluj \u201cof the PAST\u201d, which flowed through the channels of present-day Ghaggar-Patialiwali rivulets represents the western branch of the ancient river.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2013 <\/span><b>Eastern Branch: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Markanda and Sarsuti (the corruption of Saraswati) represented the western branch of Saraswati, known as Tons-Yamuna.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The confluence of these branches was near Shatrana,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 25 km south of Patiala. And suddenly, it flows crossing the desert (Rann of Kutch) and meets the Gulf of the western sea.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the historical evidence of the Saraswati River?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Sarasvati River is one of the main Rigvedic rivers mentioned in the scripture Rig Veda and later Vedic and post-Vedic texts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Book 6 of the Rig Veda includes a hymn called the <\/span><b>\u2018Nadistuti Sukta\u2019,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which sings praises of the Saraswati as being a \u201cperfect mother, unsurpassed river, supreme goddess\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This post is based on the article <\/span><b>\u201c<\/b><b>Rejuvenation Work of Saraswati River<\/b><b>\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">published in<\/span><b> PIB <\/b>on <b>28th March 2022.<\/b><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is the News?
