A centralised mode of ranking and evaluation through the CUET promises an<strong> \u201cobjective\u201d and \u201cvalue-neutral\u201d<\/strong> measurable index for selecting and eliminating young aspirants for different courses.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, this centralised test would <strong>free the tension-ridden youngsters from the pressure of writing multiple entrance tests<\/strong> in different colleges\/universities.<\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><strong>Must Read<\/strong>: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/central-university-entrance-test-benefits-and-concerns\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Common University Entrance Test (CUET) &#8211; Explained, pointwise<\/span><\/a><\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h5>What are the limitations of such standardised testing?<\/h5>\n<p>The dominant structure of education prevalent in the country is essentially <strong>book-centric and exam-oriented<\/strong>. Rote learning or strategic learning (a gift of coaching centres) is its essence. It is far from learning and unlearning with joy, wonder and creativity, young students become strategists or exam-warriors. Under these circumstances, <strong>true learning suffers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>MCQ-centric \u201cobjective\u201d tests<\/strong> are not suitable for the domain of humanities and social sciences as they involve subjective and diverse interpretation. Young students are <strong>deprived of the hermeneutic art of interpretation<\/strong> and skill of argumentation, and compelled to reduce everything into an \u201cobjective\u201d fact. In such a scenario, children will lose the power of creative articulation, and culture of debate and contestation.<\/p>\n<h5>What is the way forward?<\/h5>\n<p>Meaningful learning is not just about exams.
