Now India has achieved self-sufficiency in food production and it is ready to serve other countries. In addition, there are the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS), the Mid-Day meals (MDM), and the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS). These measures are going to provide safety net to billions of people in India<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5 aria-level=\"2\"><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">How has India helped other countries?<\/span><\/b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Afghanistan<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">India is providing humanitarian food assistance to the people of Afghanistan under the banner of the United Nations Food Programme. For example, recently, food assistance (in kind) was sent to Jalalabad, Afghanistan, through Pakistan via Amritsar\u2019s Attari border.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;201341983&quot;:2,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:150,&quot;335559740&quot;:390}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Africa and Middle East<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">In addition, in wake of Covid-19, India has given food aid to several countries in Africa and the Middle East\/West Asia. For example, such assistance was sent to Yemen and Zimbabwe in the past.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b><span data-contrast=\"none\">What is the way forward?<\/span><\/b><\/h5>\n<p>Access to food helps in maintaining peace, as highlighted by the Nobel Peace Prize received by World Food Programme (WFP) in 2020.
