{"id":177500,"date":"2022-04-04T20:23:21","date_gmt":"2022-04-04T14:53:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=177500"},"modified":"2022-04-04T20:23:21","modified_gmt":"2022-04-04T14:53:21","slug":"signing-of-the-economic-cooperation-and-trade-agreement-ecta-between-india-and-australia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/signing-of-the-economic-cooperation-and-trade-agreement-ecta-between-india-and-australia\/","title":{"rendered":"Signing of the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) between India and Australia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India and Australia have <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">signed the India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement(ETCA).<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>About the Bilateral Trade Between India and Australia<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Australia is the 17th largest trading partner of India, and India is Australia\u2019s 9th largest trading partner.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India and Australia are partners in the trilateral <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/supply-chain-resilience-initiative-or-scri-launched-by-india-japan-and-australia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Supply Chain Resilience Initiative (SCRI) <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">arrangement along with Japan, which seeks to enhance the resilience of supply chains in the Indo-Pacific Region.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Further, India and Australia are also members of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/quad-and-its-relevance-explained-pointwise\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quad<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> also comprising the US, and Japan, to further enhance cooperation and develop partnerships across several issues of common concern.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the key provisions of the India-Australia ECTA?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>Zero Duty Access on Goods: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It provides zero-duty access to 96% of India\u2019s exports to Australia. This includes shipments from key sectors such as engineering goods, gems and jewellery, textiles, apparel and leather.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also gives about 85% of Australia\u2019s exports zero-duty access to the Indian market, including coal, sheep meat and wool, and lower duty access on Australian wines, almonds, lentils, and certain fruits.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Indian Students<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Under the agreement, Indian graduates from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) will be granted extended post-study work visas.
