The President has presented the President\u2019s colour to <\/span>INS Valsura<\/span><\/i>, the Navy\u2019s premier technological training establishment.<\/span><\/p>\n Note: <\/b>The President\u2019s Colour is the highest award bestowed on a military unit in India in recognition of its exceptional services to the nation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Setup in: <\/b>1942.<\/span><\/p>\n Origin of Name:<\/b> The name \u201cValsura\u201d was derived from the combination of two Tamil words, \u2018Vaal\u2019 (meaning sword) and \u2018Sorrah\u2019 (shark). It was considered appropriate due to the variety of swordfish found off the coast of Saurashtra. <\/span>Swordfish<\/span><\/i> was also the name of the famous Second World War torpedo-carrying aircraft.<\/span><\/p>\n Purpose: <\/b>It is the Indian Navy\u2019s <\/span>premier technological training establishment. It trains officers on the operation and maintenance of sophisticated and technologically advanced equipment on board warships.<\/span><\/p>\n Located in: <\/b>Jamnagar, Gujarat.<\/span><\/p>\n During the Second World War, <\/span>HMIS Valsura<\/span><\/i> was created to enhance the training facilities in the domain of torpedo handling and operations for the Royal Navy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The establishment was built on Rozi Island in Jamnagar, donated by the ruler of Nawanagar State Colonel Digvijay Singhji Jamsaheb.<\/span><\/p>\n In 1948, there was a proposal to shift the Torpedo School to the Naval Base in Cochin, but the Jamsaheb was keen that <\/span>Valsura<\/span><\/i> continued where it was and sealed it by donating another 600 acres on the same terms.<\/span><\/p>\n The establishment was then commissioned on December 15, 1942 by Maharani Gulab Kunverba Sahiba of Nawanagar.
