{"id":178448,"date":"2022-04-09T20:48:05","date_gmt":"2022-04-09T15:18:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=178448"},"modified":"2022-04-09T20:48:05","modified_gmt":"2022-04-09T15:18:05","slug":"tour-of-duty-scheme-to-recruit-soldiers-only-for-3-5-years-being-finalized","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/tour-of-duty-scheme-to-recruit-soldiers-only-for-3-5-years-being-finalized\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Tour of Duty\u2019 scheme to recruit soldiers only for 3-5 years being finalized"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Department of Military Affairs is moving towards finalizing the \u201cTour of Duty(ToD)\u201d scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the Tour of Duty(ToD) Scheme?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tour of Duty(ToD) Scheme involves hiring<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> youth in the armed forces for a short span of 3-5 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Suggested by: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This scheme was <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">being pushed by the late Chief Of Defence Staff <a href=\"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/general-bipin-rawat-indias-first-cds-was-on-a-mission-to-modernise-the-military-the-nation-will-miss-him\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General Bipin Rawat<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Key Features of the Scheme<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme will be known as the Agnipath entry scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will be launched on an experimental basis first. The plan is to eventually recruit all soldiers in the Indian Army under the Tour of Duty model.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As per the proposal, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">around 25% of them would serve in the Army for three years and 25% of troops would serve for five years. The remaining 50% would continue to serve in the Army for the full term till they reach their retirement age.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What are the benefits to soldiers from this scheme?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Included in National Pension Scheme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Proposal states that 50% of soldiers released at the end of three and five years will be included in the National Pension Scheme. Such soldiers will be given certain medical benefits, applicable to Armed Forces veterans for a fixed period.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Priority in certain Government Jobs:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The soldiers would also be given <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">priority in recruitment to certain government jobs, including the central armed police forces.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An effort is also on to <\/span><b>nudge corporate India into hiring such ex-ToD recruits<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for specific lines of work in the private sector on a priority basis.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What are the benefits to the Government from this scheme?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b>Reduction in defence pensions: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will r<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">educe the burden of pay rises and pensions.
