It is a bilingual edition of 21 poems by Appanna. This book will help spread awareness about the endangered <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kodava takke language.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Who are Kodavas?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kodavas are an <\/span><b>ethnolinguistic group<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the region of <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kodagu<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coorg<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Karnataka<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. They speak the <\/span><b>Kodava language.\u00a0<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They are traditionally <\/span><b>land-owning agriculturists and patrilineal<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with martial customs.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kodavas worship ancestors and weapons. They are the <\/span><b>only ones in India permitted to carry firearms without a license.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Festivals: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1) Kailpoldu (Festival of Arms), 2) Kaveri Sankramana (worship of river Kaveri), and 3) Puttari (Harvest festival).<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Kodava Takke Language<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kodava takke belongs to the Dravidian group of languages. This language doesn&#8217;t have a script. But over the years, it has found its way into a written form through Kannada.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The language has been classified as an Endangered Language by UNESCO as it is spoken by just 166,187 people according to the 2001 census.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Why is the Kodava Takke language endangered?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Several factors have contributed to the Kodava language becoming endangered.\u00a0 For instance, with the coming of the Haleri dynasty, Kannada became the language of communication, the language of the court and state.
