India-Central Asia Virtual Summit\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

News<\/span><\/b>: The Prime Minister has hosted the India-Central Asia Summit in virtual format.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About India-Central Asia Summit<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is the first of its kind engagement between India and the Central Asian countries at the level of leaders.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The summit was attended by the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Objectives of the Summit: <\/span><\/b>a) To make it clear that cooperation between India and Central Asia is essential for regional security and prosperity, b) To give an effective structure to our cooperation and c) To create an ambitious roadmap for our cooperation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Significant highlights of the India-Central Asia Summit<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Delhi Declaration: <\/span><\/b>The leaders issued the Delhi Declaration at the end of the summit.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Institutionalise Summit Mechanism: <\/span><\/b>The countries agreed to institutionalise the Summit mechanism by deciding to hold it every 2 years. An India-Central Asia Secretariat in New Delhi would also be set up to support the new mechanism.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

News<\/span><\/b>: The World Economic Forum (WEF) hosted the Davos Agenda 2022 on the theme \u2018State of the World\u2019.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is being organized virtually by the World Economic Forum (WEF). The summit offered the first global platform of 2022 for world leaders to come together to share their visions for the year ahead.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

India proposed \u201cP3 (Pro-Planet-People) movement\u201d that underscores its commitments to climate change at the global forum (UNFCCC COP 26).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About World Economic Forum<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is a Swiss nonprofit foundation established in 1971, based in Geneva, Switzerland. It is recognized as the international institution for public-private cooperation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It is committed to improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional, and industry agendas<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

India Water Impact Summit\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

News<\/span><\/b>: The 6th Edition of the India Water Impact Summit took place recently.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Organized by: <\/span><\/b>National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG)<\/span><\/a> along with the Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (c-Ganga).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aim:<\/span><\/b> To enlighten the participants on the complexities and peculiarities as well as the scales of managing the rivers across the basin.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Theme:<\/span><\/b> \u201cRiver Resources Allocation: Planning and Management at the Regional Level\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Key highlights of the summit<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Launched a Leather Trade Information Portal: <\/span><\/b>It is a unique digital portal developed by Namami Gange and Solidaridad. This portal is a solution-oriented tool that will help the tanneries to self-assess their environmental performance.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Note: Tanning<\/span><\/b> is the process of treating skins and hides of animals to produce leather. A <\/span>tannery<\/span><\/b> is a place where the skins are processed.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A MoU was signed<\/span><\/b> between <\/span>C-Ganga<\/span><\/a> and the Norwegian Institute of Bio-economy Research (NIBIO) for the development of a sludge management framework.\u00a0 <\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Summit for Democracy\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

News<\/span><\/b>: The Prime Minister of India has virtually addressed the Summit for Democracy.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About the Summit for Democracy<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Summit for Democracy was a <\/span>virtual summit hosted by the United States<\/span><\/b> to renew democracy at home and confront autocracies abroad.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Themes:<\/span><\/b> The three themes of the summit are defending against authoritarianism, addressing and fighting corruption, and advancing respect for human rights.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Invitees:<\/span><\/b> There were 110 countries invited to the summit. The invitees from the Asia-Pacific region include India, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Pakistan, Maldives and the Philippines but not Bangladesh. However, Pakistan skipped the summit.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Initiatives launched at the summit<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Presidential Initiative for Democratic Renewal: <\/span><\/b>Under this Initiative, the US administration plans to provide funds for supporting free and independent media, fighting corruption, strengthening democratic reforms, advancing technology for democracy and defending free and fair elections<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fintech Open Summit\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

News<\/span><\/b>: The Minister for Communications, Electronics and IT inaugurated the Fintech Open Summit.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About the Fintech Open Summit<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Organized by: <\/span><\/b>NITI Aayog in collaboration with PhonePe, AWS and EY.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aim:<\/span><\/b> To bring together regulators, fintech professionals, industry leaders, start-up community and developers to collaborate, exchange ideas and innovate.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Objectives of the Summit:<\/span><\/b> a) Encourage an open ecosystem across the fintech industry, b) Foster innovation and growth and c) Ensure financial inclusion and leverage new models like Account Aggregator to unleash the next wave of fintech innovation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

International Summit on Plastics Recycling & Waste Management\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

News<\/span><\/b>: The Union Minister for MSME has inaugurated the International Summit on Plastics Recycling & Waste Management.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About the International Summit on Plastics Recycling & Waste Management<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Organized by<\/span><\/b>: Ministry of MSME in association with The All-India Plastics Manufacturers’ Association (AIPMA)\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Purpose: <\/span><\/b>To deliberate upon challenges and opportunities in the Plastics.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ministry of MSME also launched two special initiatives<\/span> during the summit – <\/span>‘Sambhav’ and ‘Svavlamban’<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About Sambhav and Svavlamban initiatives<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sambhav<\/span><\/b>: <\/span><\/b>It is a National Level Awareness Programme under which students from different colleges are being encouraged by the field offices of the Ministry to take up entrepreneurship.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Svavlamban:<\/span><\/b> It is a special drive where more than 200 Nukkad Natak are being organized in 46 Aspirational Districts to promote entrepreneurship amongst the youth population and spread awareness on schemes and initiatives.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ganga Connect exhibition\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

News<\/span><\/b>: The Union Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change inaugurated the Ganga Connect exhibition at the City of Glasgow College amid the COP26 meeting.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About the Ganga Connect exhibition<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It<\/span>\u202f<\/span><\/b>is an effort to present the level of development in the Ganga river basin to the global community of environmental stakeholders.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Organized by:\u202f<\/span><\/b>National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG),<\/span><\/a>\u202fc-Ganga and the High Commission of India.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About cGanga: <\/span><\/b>Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (cGanga) was established at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IITK) in 2016.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Purpose:\u202f<\/span><\/b>It is created for data collection, creation, and dissemination of information for the sustainable development of the Ganga River Basin.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The center acts in the capacity of a comprehensive think-tank\u202f<\/span><\/b>for the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Leadership\u202fGroup for Industry Transition (LeadIT)\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

News<\/span><\/b>: On the sidelines of COP 26 in Glasgow, the LeadIT (Leadership Group for Industry transition) Summit 2021 was held in hybrid mode presided by India and Sweden.<\/span>\u202f<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About the Leadership\u202fGroup for Industry Transition (LeadIT)<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Launched by<\/span><\/b>: LeadIT was launched by the Prime Ministers of Sweden and India with support from the\u202f<\/span>World Economic Forum (WEF)<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u202fduring the UN Secretary-General\u2019s Climate Action Summit in 2019, in New York.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Purpose:\u202f<\/span><\/b>It is a voluntary initiative for promoting low-carbon transition through the active participation of private sector companies. Especially in the sectors like Iron & Steel, Aluminium, Cement and Concrete, petrochemicals, fertilizers, bricks, and heavy-duty transport.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Members:<\/span><\/b>\u202fCurrently, the Group has a membership of 16 countries and 19 companies including Dalmia Cement, Mahindra Group, and SpiceJet from India.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Secretariat:<\/span><\/b>\u202fIt is\u202fhosted by Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), Sweden.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Goa Maritime Conclave\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

News<\/span><\/b>: The 3rd\u202fedition of the Goa Maritime Conclave was successfully conducted at Goa. The Indian Navy showed the visiting countries the first-hand demonstration of\u202f<\/span>Deep Submergence and Rescue Vessel (DSRV)<\/span><\/b><\/a>\u202fcapabilities<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About Goa Maritime Conclave<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Organized by:<\/span><\/b>\u202fIndian Navy under the aegis of Naval War College, Goa.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aim:\u202f<\/span><\/b>To\u202fbring together the regional stakeholders and deliberate on the collaborative implementation strategies in dealing with the contemporary maritime security challenge.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Theme:\u202f<\/span><\/b>\u201c<\/span>Maritime Security and Emerging Non-Traditional Threats: A Case for Proactive Role for IOR Navies<\/span><\/i>\u201d.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Participating countries:\u202f<\/span><\/b>The Chiefs of Navies\/ Heads of Maritime Forces from 12<\/span>\u202fIndian Ocean Region<\/span><\/a>\u202fcountries comprising Bangladesh, Comoros, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand have participated in the conclave.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Key outcomes of the conclave<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Countries adopted the Declaration of \u2018<\/span>Common Maritime Priorities<\/span><\/b>\u2019. The declaration aims to\u202fprioritize key maritime interests in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) with an emphasis on capacity building to tackle emerging common maritime threats.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS)\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

News<\/span><\/b>: The 7th\u202fedition of the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) is being hosted by the French Navy at Paris, France.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS): <\/span><\/b>IONS\u202fis a biennial forum\u202fconceived by the\u202f<\/span>Indian Navy<\/span><\/b>\u202fin 2008.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Objective:<\/span><\/b>\u202fTo enhance maritime cooperation among Navies of the littoral states of the Indian Ocean Region.\u202f<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Chaired by: <\/span><\/b>The inaugural edition of IONS was held in Feb 2008 in New Delhi with the Indian Navy as the Chair for two years.\u202f<\/span>It is <\/span>currently chaired by France<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Members of IONS<\/span><\/b>: IONS includes 24 nations that hold territory within the Indian Ocean and 8 observer nations:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
