News<\/strong>: Recently, the Prime Minister of India<\/strong>\u00a0inaugurated the Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya <\/strong>on the grounds of Teen Murti House<\/strong> in New Delhi. While doing so he declared\u00a0that the new museum would help youth value the expansion of constitutional government<\/strong> in India since Independence.<\/p>\n

History of National Museums<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Large art museums emerged in Europe in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. They emerged alongside the rise of nations<\/strong>, colonial empires<\/strong>, and industrialisation<\/strong>. For example, the World\u2019s most visited Louvre Museum<\/strong> in Paris was founded during the French Revolution.<\/p>\n

After decolonisation, museums were built in newly independent countries along western lines to bolster their national narratives. They inspired a new national consciousness. <\/strong>Currently, India has the National Museum<\/strong> which is located on the Janpath Road.<\/p>\n

About the Pradhan Mantri Sangrahalaya<\/strong><\/h5>\n

New museum would be located on Raisina Hill<\/strong>. It will open by 2026. It will \u201cvividly demonstrate different aspects of India<\/strong> or Bharat<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n

The Museum will be equipped with augmented reality<\/strong> technology, computerised kinetic sculptures, holograms, and smartphone applications.<\/p>\n

The primary purpose of the museum is to nurture patriotism<\/strong> and showcase triumph<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

What will be the challenges for the new museum?<\/strong><\/h5>\n

The new museum acknowledges India\u2019s continuing diversity<\/strong> including its many conflicts.<\/p>\n

Ensuring that irreplicable antiquities <\/strong>are not subjected to excess heat, cold drafts, humidity, and harsh light.<\/p>\n

The Way Forward<\/strong><\/p>\n

Administration<\/strong><\/p>\n

The government can promote accountability<\/strong>. It can usher transparency<\/strong> in administering a premier cultural institution<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Design and Architecture<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new museum may emulate Charles Correa\u2019s commitment <\/strong>to create accessible spaces in the public buildings like Auditoria, courtyards, concert halls, and cafes etc.<\/p>\n

The new museum can have a host of different galleries<\/strong>. For example, one gallery can show the connected histor<\/strong>y of the Indus Valley Civilization<\/strong> with ancient civilisations of Mesopotamia<\/strong> etc. Other galleries can house coins and portraits related to Kushans etc.<\/p>\n

Others<\/strong><\/p>\n

The new museums can display the entire collection<\/strong> of the National Museum<\/strong> Or at least as much of the collection that can be safely displayed.<\/p>\n

The new museum should be seen as a laboratory \u0325<\/strong>for the future. It should be used as a multi-purpose building<\/strong> dedicated to quarrying new histories and fostering fresh deliberations.<\/p>\n

The new museum should also collaborate with the contemporary artists<\/strong> like Jitish Kallat <\/strong>and other forward -looking museums in the country like,<\/strong> Bhau Daji Lad Museum<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
