{"id":181718,"date":"2022-04-28T20:24:40","date_gmt":"2022-04-28T14:54:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=181718"},"modified":"2022-04-29T08:26:57","modified_gmt":"2022-04-29T02:56:57","slug":"new-premium-quality-wheat-variety-gives-soft-and-sweet-chap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/new-premium-quality-wheat-variety-gives-soft-and-sweet-chap\/","title":{"rendered":"New premium quality wheat variety gives soft and sweet chap"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from Punjab Agricultural University have developed a new wheat variety named\u00a0 \u2018PBW1Chapati<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is Chapati and why was PBW1Chapati developed?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><b><i>Chapati<\/i><\/b><b> is a flat-baked product prepared from wheat. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It forms a cheap, primary source of protein and calories and is the staple diet in Northern Western India.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The desired quality characteristics for <\/b><b><i>chapati<\/i><\/b><b> are<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> greater pliability, puffability, soft texture and light creamish brown color, and slight chewiness with baked wheat aroma.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tall traditional wheat variety <\/span><b>C 306 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">has been the golden standard for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chapati<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> quality. Later, <\/span><b>PBW 175 variety <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was developed. However, both these have become susceptible to stripe and brown rusts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The challenge now <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was to combine high yield potential and disease resistance and retain the actual <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chapati<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> quality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Taking up this challenge, <\/span><b>Punjab Agricultural University<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has developed PBW1Chapati.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>PBW1Chapati<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has a good <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chapati<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> quality, sweet in taste, and soft in texture.
