{"id":182109,"date":"2022-04-30T20:42:16","date_gmt":"2022-04-30T15:12:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.forumias.com\/?p=182109"},"modified":"2022-04-30T20:42:16","modified_gmt":"2022-04-30T15:12:16","slug":"explained-who-are-the-hattis-of-himachal-pradesh-and-why-do-they-want-st-status","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/forumias.com\/blog\/explained-who-are-the-hattis-of-himachal-pradesh-and-why-do-they-want-st-status\/","title":{"rendered":"Explained: Who are the Hattis of Himachal Pradesh, and why do they want ST status?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h5><b>What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Union Home Minister has assured the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh that the Centre would consider the request for inclusion of the Hatti community in the list of Scheduled Tribes.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>What is the Hatti Community?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hatti community is largely concentrated in the Trans-Giri area of the Sirmaur district in Himachal Pradesh.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The community is named after their age-old professional practice of selling their homegrown crops at small markets called \u2018Haat\u2019 in nearby cities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Hattis is governed by a traditional council called<\/span><b> Khumbli,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which like the khaps of Haryana decides community matters. The Khumbli\u2019s power has remained unchallenged despite the establishment of the Panchayati Raj system.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Why should Hatti Community be granted Scheduled Tribe(ST) Status?<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hatti community of Himachal Pradesh share social as well as cultural similarities with the Jaunsar community of the Jaunsar-Bawar area of Uttarakhand.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is because the Trans-Giri area and Jaunsar Bawar area, were part of the erstwhile Sirmaur princely state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Incidentally, those who crossed over to the Jaunsar Bawar area which is now in Uttarakhand have enjoyed tribal status since 1967.
