Customer interface will be critical"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Context<\/strong>: GoI\u2019s quest to build an open digital ecommerce network for small businesses holds great promise.<\/p>\n<p>The proposed model can potentially be a <strong>game-changer for small retailers<\/strong> and <strong>new tech startups<\/strong> facing big ecommerce giants and their market dominance and commissions.<\/p>\n<p>It can also <strong>address sellers\u2019 limitations of being tied down to one platform<\/strong>, and supposedly opaque algorithms used by them to prioritise some sellers.<\/p>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse; width: 100%;\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 100%;\"><em>Physical retail still accounts for well over 90% of retail sales.<\/em><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>ONDC can also help tomorrow\u2019s ecommerce\/tech startups <strong>save redundant investments in the ecommerce network<\/strong> and focus on customer acquisition.<\/p>\n<h5>What is the way forward?<\/h5>\n<p>Unlike in digital payments and the pioneering UPI, ecommerce has dominant players with user-friendly websites and apps, excellent customer service and fast delivery networks. Hence, ONDC-based offerings have to be just as good to attract sellers and customers.<\/p>\n<p>And the smart non-disruptive solution will be to <strong>allow existing ecommerce players to operate as they are<\/strong>, with their proprietary technologies for vendor onboarding, inventory, price discovery, delivery logistics.<\/p>\n<p>ONDC, with its premise of greater cross-platform visibility and discoverability of sellers, <strong>shouldn\u2019t be thrust on anybody<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8211;<\/strong> If interoperable networks and applications built on ONDC ease tasks like cataloguing, inventory management, order fulfilment and delivery logistics, both buyers and sellers would be <strong>automatically attracted<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Source<\/strong>: This post is based on the article \u201c<strong>Desi commerce: GoI\u2019s ecommerce network for small players is a good idea.
