The United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has decided to shut down the SOFIA Telescope that confirmed the presence of water on the Moon.<\/span><\/p>\n SOFIA stands for <\/span>Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy,<\/b><\/p>\n It is a 2.7-meter infrared telescope <\/b>sitting inside a Boeing 747SP airplane flying at an altitude of 38,000-45,000 feet above the surface.<\/span><\/p>\n Collaboration between: <\/b>NASA and the German Space Agency(DLR).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Purpose:<\/b> To observe cosmic objects in far-infrared wavelengths. This allows researchers to watch star formation by looking through huge, cold clouds of gas.<\/span><\/p>\n Significance:<\/b> It is the world\u2019s largest flying telescope. It is also the second-most expensive astrophysics mission.<\/span><\/p>\n Water on the Moon: <\/b>\u00a0In 2020, NASA announced that SOFIA discovered water molecules(H2O) on the sun-facing side of the Moon.
