What is the News?<\/b><\/h5>\n

The Government of India has reviewed the existing draft National Youth Policy,2014 and prepared a New Draft National Youth Policy(NYP).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why was the Draft National Youth Policy prepared?<\/b><\/h5>\n

Currently, youths between the ages of 15 and 29 are estimated to constitute more than 34% of the total population in India.<\/span><\/p>\n

While these numbers are expected to decline in the coming years, youth will still account for almost 24% of India\u2019s population or 365 million people in 2030.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Compared to countries like China, Japan, and the USA, where they face the challenge of an ageing population, India has the advantage of being in a position of strength with the potential to drive economic growth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hence, this Draft National Youth Policy has been prepared.<\/span>

What is the Draft National Youth Policy(NYP)?<\/b><\/h5>\n

Vision of the Policy<\/b>: The policy articulates a ten-year vision for youth development that India seeks to achieve by 2030. The policy is also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs) and serves to \u2018unlock the potential of the youth to advance India\u2019.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Priority Areas:<\/b> The policy seeks to catalyze widespread action on youth development across five priority areas: 1) education, 2) employment and entrepreneurship, 3) youth leadership and development, 4) health, fitness and sports and 5) social justice.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Each priority area is underpinned by the principle of social inclusion \u2014 enabling equitable progress by including the most marginalized sections in the design, planning and implementation of all schemes and programmes.<\/span><\/p>\n
