Now the median age at first birth among women is 25-49 years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Obesity<\/strong>: India is rapidly becoming the land of the obese. Compared with NFHS-4, the prevalence of overweight or obesity has increased in most States\/UTs in NFHS-5. At the national level, it increased from 21% to 24% among women and 19% to 23% among men. Further, one in every four Indians is now obese.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_183233\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-183233\" style=\"width: 424px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-183233 \" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/1651856311-6847.jpg?resize=424%2C485&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Obesity\" width=\"424\" height=\"485\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/1651856311-6847.jpg?w=620&amp;ssl=1 620w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/forumias.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/1651856311-6847.jpg?resize=262%2C300&amp;ssl=1 262w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 424px) 100vw, 424px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-183233\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Source: Business Standard<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The percentage of obese population is more in urban (33%) than in rural areas (20%).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is also a steady increase in the proportion of overweight or obese men and women as household wealth increases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Puducherry (46%), Chandigarh (44%), Delhi, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab (41% each) have the highest proportion of obese women. In comparison, Jharkhand and Bihar followed by Gujarat have the highest proportion of thin women.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, Andaman and Nicobar Islands have the highest proportion of overweight men (45%), followed by Puducherry (43%) and Lakshadweep (41%).
